What to do after a carpet is flooded

A burst pipe, appliance leak or heavy rain can leave a carpet and its underlay wet. The right response depends on where the water came from, how long it has been there and what is wet beneath the carpet. Tell us these details when you contact us so we can assess whether extraction and cleaning are suitable.

  • If it is safe, stop the water source. Keep clear of wet electrical equipment and arrange a qualified check before switching it back on.
  • Photograph the damage and check with your insurer or landlord before disposing of materials or arranging major work.
  • Tell us immediately if sewage, outside floodwater or an unknown source is involved. A contaminated or extensively soaked carpet or underlay may need specialist remediation or replacement rather than cleaning.
